Intrigued? Cotton Traders Ad in This Old House Magazine

September 16, 2019 by Editor Leave a Comment

Do these types of advertisements work?

First of all, This Old House is a good magazine and also I really love their show. It is all about the home building and fixing rather than the nonsense you get on cable network home shows.

This specific ad caught my eye because the amount they offering in markdown is more than the remaining cost. With the deal, the pants are $29 after the deal. I would actually think about it a little more if the pants themselves didn’t have the cargo pockets. The added hems of the cargo pockets make the pants too bulky looking. I think, if I were them, I would change the cargo pockets to slit pockets. Lastly, I’d make the waist area elastic and the legs more tapered.  To be fair, these pants aren’t catering to the demographic that I may be in.

What is interesting to me is that this type of ad and/or insert has been used for years. I personally have never ordered anything from an ad like this, but my dad used to order the occassional Blair offer. I’d like to know how effective these mail order ads are for clothing. The price of the pants and shoes aren’t excellent. Furthermore, you have to hit $79 to get free shipping. It goes to show how hard it is to beat someone like Amazon to the profits.
